I’m such a sucker for cute cafés and Simbahöllin definitely falls into that category.
Simbahöllin or (Simib’s Palace) is located in a small village called Þingeyri in the stunning Westfjords. Like so many other amazing small cafés around Iceland, it’s only open during the summer months or from June through September.
Simbahöllin is in an old charming timber house that used to house a general store from 1915 to 1970. When the current owners bought it in 2005, it was in a very bad shape. They renovated the whole house but kept most of the original interior which in my opinion is exactly what makes the café so charming.
The owners are a couple from Belgium and Denmark. They met here in Iceland and fell in love with Þingeyri and Simbahöllin on their travels around the Westfjords. Now they don’t only run the café but also a bike rental and then they offer guided horse riding tours. If you rent a bike from them, it’s ideal to go and explore the scenic Svalvogvegur. Svalvogavegur is an incredibly scenic 49km/30mi road that starts in Þingeyri. You might not be up for doing the whole route but I sure can recommend doing at least a part of it. If you do, I can promise you’re up for an adventure.
I 100% recommend to stop by at Simbahöllin on your travels around the Westfjords. If not to rent a bike to explore the beautiful surroundings or to participate on a horse riding tour, then just to enjoy a cup of coffee and some delicious home made goodies.
