Hey you!
Do you know that feeling, when you’re so passionate for something that you feel like everybody else should also know about it so they won’t miss out? This is how I feel about Icelandic nature. And for a very good reason let me tell you.
Icelandic nature is amazingly diverse and offers endless possibilities to explore beautiful places and areas. I mean honestly, the more I explore the longer the bucket list gets. I constantly hear and read about more places I would like to see and experience so this is a never ending project. Which is kinda awesome.
Icelandic nature is amazingly diverse and offers endless possibilities to explore beautiful places and areas.
My name is Jórunn and I’m a born and raised Icelander. For the first 20 years of my life I lived in a tiny town in North Iceland called “Sauðárkrókur” (I dare you to try to pronounce it!) but for the last 20 years I have been living in the capital area with my husband and two children.
I’m a huge nature lover and consider myself incredibly lucky to be born in a country like Iceland. My love for stunning nature and hiking goes way back, but it’s just in the past three years or so that I really began to pursue this passion of mine. The main reason being my kids are both teenagers now so I suddenly have much more time on my hands and more freedom to do the things I love. Even though I think it’s sad in a way that my kids don’t need me as much as they used to, I also appreciate the freedom that comes with it and have decided to make as good use of it as I possibly can.
In my opinion hiking is the best way to really experience and get the feel of this magical country.
Hiking is by far my favourite nature related activity and I recommend all visitors to go on at least one hike during their stay in Iceland. In my opinion hiking is the best way to really experience and get the feel of this magical country. But just to be clear though, I am not an advanced hiker. At all. The longest hike I have ever been on was about 24 km (14 miles) but most of them have been way shorter than that or about 5-15 km (3-9 miles).
A hike doesn’t have to be long to do the trick. Even a short walk in beautiful surroundings can leave you in awe and do wonders for your soul. For me it’s all about the journey. Not just getting from A to B. If a trail or a certain place isn’t beautiful (in my opinion), I will not return, as then it doesn’t do it for me. May be fine to visit once, but not twice. A bit harsh? Maybe. But then again, there are soooo many other places that meet these conditions of mine and I would much rather spend my precious time on visiting or revisiting these. These are also the places I want to share with you.
I’d love to share my explorations with you. My goal is to inspire you to come on a visit one day and experience it all yourself.
The year 2020 is the year I decided to go all in and I’m loving every minute of it. I’m on a mission. A mission to explore as many places as I possibly can in the coming years and share the experiences with you in the hope of being able to inspire you along the way. Inspire you to come on a visit one day and experience it all yourself.
Are you ready to get inspired?
Come on then and join me on my explorations around Iceland. I have to warn you though. You will most likely fall in love with this magnificent volcanic island. And as a result, you’ll want to plan multiple visits, as a single visit will never be enough to cover everything you want to experience. But hey, who said that was a bad thing?

You’ll also find me on Instagram and Facebook as Siggadottir. I especially recommend you to watch my stories there, as I use them to tell quick stories of my hikes and road trips with pictures and videos. Here on the blog you’ll get much more detailed information about some of these but my social media stories may give a bit of a preview of what there is to come on the blog.
Look forward to seeing you there too!
