If you plan on driving to the Westfjords, here is a must to stop at Litlibær!
This cute little house is located in Skötufjörður and was originally built in 1895. In the beginning, two families or up to 20 people lived in this tiny house. It’s very hard for a modern Icelander to imagine how that was even possible!
Today, the Icelandic National Museum owns the house and runs a café in it during the summer months. Here you can buy a cup of coffee or tea and some yummy pastries. At Litlibær they are famous for their delicious waffles which they serve with blueberry and/or rhubarb jam and whipped cream. So good 😋
So if you’re planning on driving to or from Ísafjörður, this is the perfect place to stop and enjoy some refreshments with a beautiful view ☕ 🧇 And you might even spot some seals there nearby. Which would be a great bonus, right?
When traveling around the Westfjords you might also want to check out:
- A tour along Svalvogavegur – a very adventurous and scenic drive.
- Take a dip in Reykjalaug Hot Spring.
- Stop by at Simbahöllin for a cup of coffee and some homemade goodies. Or even to rent a bike or to participate on a horse riding tour.
