What’s nicer than relaxing in warm water in a nice company, with a good drink in hand in a beautiful setting after a long day of sight-seeing? Not that much if you ask me! 🙂
There are a few things we have plenty of here in Iceland and one of them is geothermal baths. Even so, we still don’t seem to think we have enough of them as one more is being built as we speak and there are plans on building at least two more!
One of the new-ish baths is Forest Lagoon which opened in 2022. It’s located in, or rather just outside, Akureyri, the biggest town in North Iceland.
Like all the other baths, Forest Lagoon is a very nice geothermal bath. The biggest difference between this one and most of, if not all the others, is the lack of view. As the name suggests, it’s surrounded by trees (yes, we do have some of those here!) which kind of blocks the view. Ok, to be fair, they don’t totally block it but the trees make it feel a little bit closed off. Which is the point I guess.
Don’t misunderstand me, I love trees and other greeneries as I think they make everything more cozy. But that being said, I also think a big part of the experience in most of the geothermal baths is the view they offer. But that might just be me. You got to go there and let me know if you agree 🙂
They also have a lovely restaurant at the Forest Lagoon. We had a light meal there after all the soaking which was very nice. I had a chicken salad that was both a treat for they eyes and the taste buds.
Other Great Geothermal Baths
My personal favorites when it comes to geothermal baths here in Iceland are:
- Sky Lagoon – love their 7 step ritual
- GeoSea – the view there on a good day is to die for
- Krauma – may not have an amazing view but they do have a really nice relaxation room which all the other baths lack
Well, that’s it for now. If you liked this post about my Iceland nugget and think some of your friends might be interested in reading it too, please help me spread the word. I’d really appreciate it if you’d share it on social media or just send it directly to a friend.
Until next time!
