Who wouldn’t love to get soaked in a hot pool or a hot spring in a quiet place out in nature? And if that wasn’t enough, what if I threw in an ocean view plus stunning mountains all around with it?
Well, if you would love a place like that, you’re in luck!
In the Westfjord, you’ll find exactly what I just described in a small fjord called Reykjarfjörður. Reykjafjörður Fjord is in the southern-west part of the Westfjords here in Iceland. And by the way, the Westfjords are a STUNNING area. Just driving around (the sometimes crazy roads) is a real adventure in itself. So if you ever get a chance to visit, I can’t recommend this area enough. Plus, there are a lot fewer tourists around. Which means the best places aren’t as crowded as in some other parts of Iceland.
Reykjalaug is an old swimming pool, located right by the road. It’s warm year round and there is even a small shed on site where you can change clothes.
And there is more! Just above the pool, a natural hot spring lies a bit hidden. I’m not sure how warm it is but when I was there last summer, it felt a little bit too hot for me 🥵 But you might think otherwise 🙂
Reykjalaug is the perfect spot to put on your “Westfjord-List”. If you search for “reykjalaug” in google maps and choose “Reykjafjarðarlaug Hot Pool” from the results, you got the right place.
Make sure to also check these hot springs out
If you like bathing in hot springs out in nature you also might want to check out these two places:
- The hike to the warm river in Reykjadalur
- Seljavallalaug, the old swimming pool that is located in a gorgeous narrow valley on the south coast.
Well, that’s it for now. If you liked this post about my Iceland nugget and think some of your friends might be interested in reading it too, please help me spread the word. I’d really appreciate it if you’d share it on social media or just send it directly to a friend.
Until next time!
